The Best of Malaysian Cuisine, Singapore 2009

Traveling through Singapore , relaxing in a Malaysian hotel or walking on the city streets, one will realize that in Singapore, passions surround eating and food.  There are endless choices found on just about every street corner.  Food served hot, and food served chilled, any hour of the day and night.  The exceptional aspect is that not only is the food of the country offered, but food from various regions around the world.  The tapestry that is woven by the different cultures living in the same vicinity, affects all aspects of Singapore, and this includes the world of fine dining, as well as the street side vendors and hawkers.  For those traveling throughout the cities of the world, those entranced by and looking for exotic flavors, Singapore is the place to be, where the spices of China , Thailand, Malaysia and India compliment one another and offer flavors not found anywhere else.  Singapore is most certainly Asia’s food capital.

This is reflected in the everyday life of the city, as well as in the various festivals that occur throughout the year.  This summer there will be many culinary events to keep visitors appeased and pleased.  The many bars, restaurants and hotels sponsor the round the clock fun, and food…one such event is the Singapore Food Festival which begins July 17, 2009 and runs for just about two weeks.  This festival in particular features the restaurants and hawker stands, and celebrates Singapore’s status as the number one location throughout Asia for culinary explorations and experiences.  The famous Singapore Chili Crabs are offered a plenty, as well as various Hainanese dishes.  The food spans the globe as French chefs step up and prepare their dishes along side those from the different cities located throughout the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia.  Not only are the dishes offered, but work shops and classes are available for those wishing to learn the secrets that they will bring back to their kitchens at home.  There are competitions as well as celebrations and parties that will last the duration of the festival.  This is definitely one of the best times to visit the country, most certainly if one has a healthy appetite and a spirit for adventure.
