Doors

This week, let us be inspired by Doors, those intriguing passageways from here to there. Doors can symbolize many things: freedom, escape, change, secrecy, hearth. Perhaps you could share with us a special door in your life that is a work of art in itself, or choose to create a piece of art that illustrates what concepts resonate with you when thinking about doors or doorways. Looking forward to seeing your a-door-able art! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

I was worried you disappeared — glad to see that is not the case. I use godaddy too; thanks for the reminder; would had to get up and find my site missing!

Here is my door; a photoshopped one. I think I have an altered book with a door in it but for some reason can’t find it right now and I am busy spring cleaning. Just watch; as soon as I post this one I will find the other.

This painting was inspired by a line in an old song– “Where do you go to dream?” As I thought about it, I decided that home is a great place to feel safe and to dream. I used an old map for the door because a lot of my dreams revolve around travelling to far off places.

    From my journal:

    http://www.etstudio.net/door.html

I love this rich engraving of a Renaissance door from Aix-en-Provence, France, and I also like to mess around with textures and colors to contrast with the rigid ancient feeling of the very proper door and how the words also add something unknown and mysterious - doors always project a sense of adventure and the unknown for me, a path waiting to be discovered.

I have so many photographs of doors, but here’s my favorite. It’s a doorway that I spied in Little Five Points one afternoon in March. I’ll bet that an artist placed the shoes there. You can’t see it but, inside the shoes, there was a Post It that said “Free Shoes.”
