Medical Art

“One day in the doctor’s office, looking at another set of x-ray films of my disabled body, I was struck by the strange beauty of my bones—the soft, delicate shading of grays and blacks and then the starkness of the metal materials pieced through the bones. When the doctor stepped out, I snapped some digital photos of my x-rays, and later at home I worked with them in Photoshop. Suddenly, these pieces of bone came to life…” Elayna Alexandra

This week’s creative prompt is Medical, inspired by Elayna who is in our artist spotlight this week. I think it is inspiring how her x-rays became a source of inspiration for her. Perhaps you could draw inspiration from your personal experience with a disability or ailment, from an anatomical illustration in a text book, from the vast array of treatments and cures the medical community have discovered or are striving for, or however you choose to interpret this theme.

Funnily enough, just last week I posted a health-related limerick and haiku and prompted visitors to post links to their own. You can find my Healthy Verse limerick and haiku and links to my prompt participants here.

Here’s a drawing complemented by a very faintly “medical” real-life story.

I have been waiting for this week’s topic and wondering when I would have time to create. No need to worry, this one is done. I look at this now as a chance to “bee” heard. Please read the entire post start to finish. Turn down the volume if the music bothers you. Please share this with everyone you know, it is my message. A message from an artist who is a pharmacist about friendship, cancer, community, self discovery, strength and a hope. Thank You for your time. Karen

What a wonderful theme this week. I have chosen to create a pencil sketch on this theme, entitled A Mothers Love.

I have been frequenting several doctors’ offices and hospital departments lately, as I have been getting medical treatments on a regular basis. This obviously means a lot of sitting in waiting rooms, which quickly prompted me to harm myself with my pocket Moleskine that I have been “filling” with chairs sketches. The link (http://www.marinaowens.com/La_Vie_En_Rose/Marinas_Blog/Entries/2008/3/9_Chair_[mri]___.html) will take you to one of these sketches and, if you’d like, you can view more by clicking Art Creations in the navigation bar of my blog.

like krissie click on name; attaching links won’t work. mine is titled “still life?” a quick study in dry pastels; the body laid out like a table of food from going to too many doctor appointments and laying on tables.
