Welcome to Inspire Me Thursday...   A weekly dose of inspiration for
mixed media artists and creative types to nurture their muses and CREATE!

Reduce Reuse Recycle

This week’s topic is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Think about how this applies to you as an artist… is it possible for you to recyclereduce your creative waste or scraps… reuse discarded materials in a new creative way… recycle items into something entirely new? Be inspired to create something to celebrate Earth Day, to illustrate an environmental issue or to give new purpose to items that would otherwise be headed for the landfill. Think “green”!

· · ·

Get creative by interpreting this topic through art, words, photography, however you feel moved to express yourself. Post it on your blog, then leave your link* in the comments section of this post so we can go check it out.

* To ensure it is easy for us to find your work, please provide a link to a static page that will always show your submission, and not your website’s main page.

great topic! I decided to dig around in my recycling bin and paint on some pasta boxes. I actually had a great time painting on something other than watercolor paper, the paint/paper interaction was completely new and a lot of fun. My favorite inspiration so far, thanks!

    I agree - a great topic.

I generally try to use these prompts to inspire new work, but I just posted a article last week about a piece currently hanging in a show which is a perfect example of this…

I have been doing more and more recycling of things in my art lately. Here are a couple of things I have done this week:

    http://arttvisionz.blogspot.co.....ample.html

This is one I did for the Quilting Arts “Go Green” challenge:
    http://arttvisionz.blogspot.co.....green.html
This is my ultimate effort in recycling, I think. I tried to make sure every element was recycled, repurposed, or reused to create this piece.

This is my piece, which is a photo of my daughter, who loves vintage clothes (thus, re-using) as much as I do.

    Happy Earth Day!

This isn’t a very new illustration but it seems to fit this week’s prompt (I’ll still try to post a new one this week though). I was feeling very sad one night and I found a crumpled letter on my desk. I normally would’ve thrown it away but I drew on it instead. Here it is: http://loonybinart.wordpress.com/2008/02/20/37/

    Hello,
This is my first time joining you all. I love the subject. I love the earth and feel joy in showing appreciation through “reduce, reuse, recycle”. Great way to celebrate earth day!

Love recycling in my art, I just did this fun little shadow box for a friend and bogged a little message about recycled items for art. There are so many things out there to use and congratulations for inspiring us to take another look. The majority of my art and home decor I saved from the trash. Here is the link to my shadow box project but please check out some of my other art. I am new to the blog world but look forward to show the world more. Karen

This image has been reduced from it’s original size and has been re-used today as I have posted this image on my blog before. It is a picture book idea about a little character called Oakley who recycles everyday objects. Here he has made a submarine from fizzy drink cans. As you can see he is often unsuccessful with his inventions.

My aunt, who is 90, has had a very long and not easy life. She was a child prodigy on piano and here I have videoed her playing her favorite music - a compilation of Gershwin tunes. I am recycling this memory for her - she lived a whole century of change and I feel like the very emotional way she projects a long sad life comes through beautifully as she plays - turn the volume up and enjoy:

I posted this blog on IIIWW a couple of weeks ago. But it fits here much better.

Etta is a character of mine. Old, displaced, living with a distant relative. If you click on the tag “Etta” at the bottom of the post you will find the rest of the story. Enjoy!

I’ve just finished this small canvas, using a lot of old paint and paper. The subject matter, too, is about the cycles of life, and the constants of truth and meaning that lie within them.
