Action Painting
This week let us be inspired by Action Painting, a “style of painting in which paint is spontaneously dribbled, splashed or smeared onto the canvas, rather than being carefully applied.” Think Jackson Pollock, the American Abstract Expressionist Painter who was fond of huge canvases on the floor, applying paint with a stick or other objects, using a ‘drip’ technique, walking around the canvas, being ‘in the painting.’

Your prompt reminds me of a post and limerick I wrote some time ago. It was inspired by a news story about dogs trained to paint abstract art: Cashing In With Doggie Da Vincis

I just found Inspire Me Thursday on Diana Evans’ blog and had to post something right away! I love the concept of IMT.
For my action painting: I was doing a study in acrylics on canvas paper, decided it wasn’t working and proceeded to swirl some paint around until I saw a seedling sprouting and went with it. I tend to be very tight with my work and it was quite liberating! I call it “Spring”. Just in time as it is fast approaching!

I didn’t get an action painting done… but wanted to say how much I love (love) the new layout of the site. Very dynamic. Well done!

Hi, I’m new to Inspire Me Thursday but it’s just what I need at the moment to help me keep up the creative momentum. I’ve been an abstract painter for a few years, recently rediscovered drawing again, but used this topic to let myself have fun and play again.

Well I started off with “action painting” in mind…got three only sort-of successful attempts… and ended up writing about being still :) It’s sort of inspiration in the opposite :)

Hi Melanie…and everyone!
Thank you for the delicious prompt! Love the new look of the site!
As synchronicity would have it, I just made a SoulCollage card this week to honor my “inner-journaler”. It fits the inspiration for the journal-artcalendar prompt; as well as the “create” prompmt. I’m Leaping with Joy into a nurturing companionship with my inner-journaler. She’s the angel on my shoulder to journaling.
