Nicole, please tell us about yourself.
Since I was a child I have always needed to create and I have never been afraid to get my hands dirty. Whether with scraps of fabric in my mom’s sewing room, paint I found in the shed or pieces of paper torn out of magazines, I was always trying to make something. As an adult things haven’t really changed much. I graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1997 and “got a job” but I still live to make stuff. In 2005, I took a workshop on kiln fused glass and immediately knew this was what I needed to do.
What do you create?
I create mainly functional glass art including bowls, plates, platters, clocks, tiles and jewelry. The one constant is that it’s made with glass.
What are your favorite techniques and/or supplies?
I use kiln forming techniques to melt compatible glasses together but my favorite work often takes place outside the kiln. For instance, I enjoy breaking out a small torch to melt glass into design elements like spirals and twisted cane which I can include in my pieces.

Tell us about your creative process.
It starts by journaling, everything from the mundane to the inspired. My journals include meaningless writings, do lists and doodles. I normally keep my self very busy and this is not really conducive to creating new work so, to begin work on an inspired idea I need to stop the constant chatter in my head and focus. I need silence from the world around me and I need time.

In what ways do you live artfully?
I believe in order to have creative output I need to supply myself with valuable input. This can include traveling with my husband or taking walks alone in the woods. I think it’s important to read and almost always travel with a book (or 2 or 3) in my purse. When you read your mind is an active participant compared to the passive role played when watching television. I also enjoy experiencing good food and wine, music, photography,
interaction with other creative people through local groups like the San Antonio Calligraphy Guild and Art Glass Guild, and passing on my knowledge of glass as an instructor at a local studio.
Do you sell your art? If so, where is it available for purchase?
In Liberty Hill, Texas at Sweet Liberty Creations.
In St. Paul, Minnesota at the Evoke Gallery.
In San Antonio, Texas at Wired Designs Studio.
And directly from me via my website.
What is your personal motto or mantra?
It is what it is.
What is your favorite topic that you’ve participated in at Inspire Me Thursday?
Limited Palette.

I enjoyed reading your bio and visiting your website. I’m working on creating one for myself and finding it rather cumbersome (but necessary). Great work. I especially like your red plate with the black spirals
